This isn't about protecting a designer's ego. It's about protecting the business. When opinions consistently outweigh evidence, organisations introduce risk that often goes unnoticed until it becomes expensive.

Many businesses place design inside Marketing. Others place it inside Product. Some treat it as a service department. Personally... I think that's the biggest misunderstanding in modern organisations.

Design software is incredibly powerful. But it's also dangerous. Why? Because it lets us jump into solutions before we've understood the problem.
